Mechanism of action of hydroxychloroquine in fibromyalgia

She gave me Plaquenil for the pain that I have been having, and a steroid pack in the interm. When I was first put on the steroid in July, the pain I had in my shoulders went down, but the hips increased. It seems that the shoulder pain is like a dull ache and the pain in my hips is more sharp and hurts more with different movements than the shoulder does. Has anyone had a dr do this and had it help the fibro? I also noticed that the pain in both increases as the day goes on. I am trying to see if I can go without the Vicodin tonight, but I don't think I am going to hold out.

Based on the mechanism of action and findings in animals, Hydroxyurea can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. Hydroxyurea was embryotoxic and teratogenic in rats and rabbits at doses 0.8 times and 0.3 times, respectively, the maximum recommended human daily dose on a mg/m 2 basis. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are drugs derived from the quinoline molecule. Both are used as antimalarial blood schizonticides, and hydroxychloroquine is also frequently used as an antirheumatic. Their mechanism of action is not entirely understood. Hydroxychloroquine – Doses usually range between 200mg and 400mg per day, or 1-2 tablets/day. Chloroquine – Usually 250mg per day. How do anti-malarials work? While there has been extensive research into this area, it remains unclear as to the exact mechanism of action.

Fibro is always there...where the MCTD is more controlled, unless I'm having a super flare..everything goes haywire. In the end living with whatever you have is basically dealing with it the best you can trying to stay positive and take one day at a time.

What is the correct way to discontinue use of plaquenil? Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. If you're gonna experiment, I went off it cold turkey as it didn't hurt to do it that way, but you better get back on before the summer or you could experience a flare-up.
